What is Erasmus?

What is Erasmus?

Erasmus is the EU's flagship education and training programme, enabling more than 180,000 students to study and work abroad each year, as well as supporting co-operation actions between higher education institutions across Europe. It caters not only for students, but also for professors and business staff who want to teach abroad and for university staff who want to be trained abroad.

‘Erasmus Programme’ is an European Union education and training programme which aims to increase the quality of higher education in Europe. For this purpose, it promotes the co-operation among higher education institutions in Europe. These partnership and mobility activities are financially supported within this context. In addition to mobility actions, the Programme supports higher education institutions to work together through intensive programmes, networks and multilateral projects.

Besides the maintenance of co-operation among higher education institutions (HEI) , Erasmus programme promotes the collaboration between HEIs and labour markets so that universities will meet the need of labour market and graduates will have more job opportunities.

The European Commission is responsible for the overall implementation of Erasmus Programme managed by the national agencies and the Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture based in Brussels in the 31 participating countries.

Actions under Erasmus Programme run by the Turkish National Agency are:
